Hey Whats-up guys welcome to Sid Tech and you are watching my review of the Amazon Fire TV Stick. Let’s first quickly see what we get inside the box. So first we have the Amazon fire TV stick itself which looks like and over-sized USB flash drive. It has one microUSB port for charging and and a HDMI out port for display. It comes with standard 5v at a 1 amp charger and a HDMI extender which comes in handy if you need that extra length.
It also comes with a Bluetooth remote and you can also speak to the remote to watch content but sadly it works only on Amazon prime video. The remote is well built and i really wish that there was a track pad there in the center, just a wish. But the biggest con here is that there are no volume controls on the remote which is really annoying as I have to use my television remote to adjust the volume.
Once you connect the the stick with your TV you just have to connect to your wifi it supports both the wifi bands and then login to your Amazon account and you are good to go. Amazon fire TV runs on fire OS based on Android TV so not only you get that growing collection of Amazon Prime video but also you can download all most any app for the Google Play store. Talking about the amazon prime video collection it is good and is constantly growing especially with the Indian content, there a lot of Hindi shows coming up and i love to watch those comedy specials of EIC, AIB and other comedians.
Coming to the android apps I have installed quite a few apps here like YouTube ted etc. Youtube works very well here and it’s great to see your favorite creators video on big screen.. The fire TV stick also comes with many games which are Ok, nothing very special. I just played the games for the review purpose otherwise i don’t think i will play games on this. Now coming to the settings, you can choose a screensaver which will look good on your television, manage your apps and also as it is using Bluetooth for controlling you can connect a gaming controller with it though it’s official controller is not available in India.
You can save data by choosing video quality to good and choose best if you want the best quality. There is also a data monitoring feature which will notify you once you have consumed a certain amount of data. You can also cast your smartphone just like you do on chrome-cast. Coming to the one and only con about the device is it’s volume.
It suddenly goes high and low and when you don’t have volume controls on the remote it is even worse. I hope amazon fixes this with a software update. So at the end should you buy it? Yes if you are looking for a media streaming device for you TV there is no better option at this price point the only thing you should check is that you have a good internet connection as well as good FUP limit as if you keep it plugged in to your TV even if you are watching your normal setup box TV it might get updated in the background and use your data.
