Xiaomi Redmi 5A Unboxing and Initial Impressions | 3GB+32GB

Xiaomi has finally launched it’s next entry-level smartphone and also it’s most affordable smartphone in India called the Redmi 5A. The smartphone is priced at ₹4,999 for the 2GB RAM and 16GB storage for the first 5 million units and at ₹5999 after that. The 3GB RAM and 32GB storage at ₹6,999.

So the device comes in this new Redmi themed box and do note I have the 3GB RAM and 32 GB storage variant priced at ₹6,999. Inside the box, we have a standard Xiaomi power brick, USB to micro USB cable, some power work and a Sim ejector too. Now coming to the phone I have this gold color variant which looks good but I always prefer the black one. the device looks similar to its predecessor the Redmi 4a and internally also there is not much change.

The smartphone is powered by the 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage expandable via MicroSD up to 128GB. It sports a 5 inch HD display and comes with a reading mode. It comes with a 13MP rear camera: f/2.2 aperture, 5-element lens and PDAF for fast focusing and a 5MP front camera: f/2.0 aperture, Smart, and pro beautify features. The dual sim smartphone houses a 3,000 mAh battery. It runs on Android Nougat with MIUI 9 on top and also comes with an IR blaster.

Physical Overview

The device is made out of plastic but Xiaomi had used metallic paint here which gives it a premium look. Moving to button placements at on front on top we have sensors earpiece had a 5 Megapixel front-facing camera followed by a 5 inch HD display and 3 touch type capacity navigation keys which are not backlit.

At the back, you will find a 13-megapixel camera along with led flash followed by the mi branding at the bottom. At the top we the secondary noise-cancelling microphone, an IR blaster and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The main microphone and micro USB port can found at the bottom. On the left-hand side, we have two trays one is a dedicated micro SD card slot and other is a dual SIM slot. The power button and the volume rockers can be found on the right-hand side.

Initial Impressions

The device is running on MIUI 9 based on Android nougat which comes with many new features like split-screen mode, dual apps etc. Out of that 32GB, we got around 25.7GB which is good. The device should perform same as it’s predecessor in terms of day to day usage but I hope we have a better camera here. I will be coming up with a Redmi 5A vs Redmi 4A comparison soon, so stay tuned to Sid Tech.
