Since 2014, Microsoft has not updated its non-pro lineup of Surface tablets. Microsoft is working on to change that this year with a new budget Surface tablet running Windows 10. Microsoft is expected to launch the tablet in the second half of 2018.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Microsoft Surface tablet will be powered by an Intel processor instead of the expected ARM processor. The device will be priced around $400 around ₹ to compete with the recently launched budget iPad.
The new tablet will sport a 10-inch display and will come with softer edges just like on the new iPad. Apple focused the new iPad for education and we can expect Microsoft to do the same and provide it at a special price to educational institutions, students and teachers. And of course it will run on Windows 10, we might see some new tablet mode features for the OS.
The budget Surface tablet will use USB Type C port for charging and data syncing. Apart from this, it will have the usual stuff like LTE variant, 64GB and 128GB of storage configurations. Again just like Apple iPad the new Surface tablet will not come with bundled accessories to keep the price down.
But it will support the surface keyboard, surface pen (stylus) and surface mouse. Apple has always been the leader of the tablet segment. Let’s see if Microsoft can bring something to take that away this year. Stay tuned to Sid Tech for more tech updates.
