Earlier this week, Xiaomi India started teasing a new smartphone launch in India on 7th June 2018. Xiaomi is calling it as its best selfie smartphone. While we have already told you that it is indeed the Xiaomi Redmi S2 smartphone launch in China last week. Xiaomi will rebrand it as Xiaomi Redmi Y2 in India.
Xiaomi launched the Redmi Y series in India last year which was called its selfie centric series and Redmi S2 fits the series perfectly. In the latest teaser image Xiaomi has differentiated the letter “Y” confirming that it would be called the Xiaomi Redmi Y2.
The budget Xiaomi smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage. It sports a 5.99-inch HD+ 18:9 aspect ratio display and runs on MIUI 9 based on Android Oreo.
The dual-SIM smartphone supports microSD card up to 256GB and houses a 3080mAh battery. Coming to the main USP of the smartphone, Redmi S2 sports a 16-megapixel selfie camera with 2-micron pixels. It comes with the popular face unlock feature along with AI portrait mode, AI beauty mode, and Front HDR mode.
In China, it starts at CNY 999 around ₹10,500. We can expect a similar pricing in India. Another snapdragon 625 equipped Xiaomi device is not what we wanted but let’s see how well Xiaomi can price it. Also lets’ see how well Xiaomi will handle the flash sales process.
