Facebook owned photo sharing platform, Instagram announced a bunch of new updates last month at Facebook F8 conference. Now the company has finally started rolling out these updates to the users including Video Chat, Topic Channels in Explore and new camera effects for stories.
Now you can video chat with anyone via the Instagram direct. You can video chat with a single person or have a group video call. The feature has now started rolling out to both Instagram for Android and iOS. To start a video chat go to Instagram Direct, open any message, tap the new camera icon at the top right corner.
Another amazing feature is that while video chatting you can minimize the chat windows and can multi-task while going through your Instagram Feed. For group video calls you can currently do it with up to 4 people and the video will expand as more friends join.
If you group is in an active video chat, there will be a blue camera icon, tap that and you are now also in the group video call. You can chat with anyone on Instagram provided you have a message thread with them. You can block or mute a person if you don’t want to video chat.
There are many new camera effects too which are designed by Ariana Grande, Buzzfeed, Liza Koshy, Baby Ariel and NBA. There are some great AR stickers which you can use in the Instagram camera. We have already posted about the new redesigned explore tab, you can read that here.
“You’ll see a new effect in your Instagram camera if you follow any of these accounts — just tap the face icon at the bottom right corner. If you aren’t a follower but you see an effect that you love, you can tap to try it on and add it to your camera.” Instagram announced.
