While Google is way ahead of Apple in terms of Artificial Intelligence, Apple is betting a lot on Augmented Reality. At WWDC 2018 also we saw Apple talk a lot abut AR and even showed a sample AR game. While that was for developers to build AR games for iOS, Apple is now working to build a great hardware for AR on iPhones.
According to a report by ETNews, Apple has given the task of building 3D-sensing rear modules to JSCK, a local company in South Korea. This new module would be similar to the one present in the notch of the iPhone X but this time with a rear camera setup.
For this Apple will bring a triple camera setup in 2019 iPhone models. While we already have dual-camera setup on iPhone X, this new third sensor will help in AR. According to the reports JSCK are on a very early stage of development of these sensors and Apple will only implement the module if it matches Apple quality guidelines.
Many reports claimed that we can expect a triple camera setup on 2018 iPhone models but now we know that it is not possible. Till now we have seen a triple camera setup on the Huawei P20 Pro and Samsung is also expected to bring a triple camera setup with Samsung Galaxy S10.
While both Huawei and Samsung are using these sensors for better camera performance, Apple is looking for new opportunities via Augmented Reality. We hope JSCK is able to produce some quality units and we can see 2019 models with some unique AR features. Stay Tuned to Sid Tech for latest tech news, deals, reviews and more.
